Helping students thrive through every day learning

Student well-being and happiness are not something to add to education. They can become part of how a school teaches, communicates and works together.

Most schools already do an excellent job of teaching knowledge and developing academic skills. But how and where we teach matters too. The language we use, the experiences we create and the way we engage with students can all influence their well-being and development.

I help schools integrate evidence-informed approaches from positive education, cognitive and social science into the learning and curriculum already in place — making well-being part of everyday school life rather than another programme for teachers to deliver.

Research-informed approaches translated into practical school practice

From teaching well to helping students flourish

Alongside academic success, young people need the confidence and capacity to navigate an increasingly complex and unpredictable world.

Schools play an important role in developing these capabilities.
Students thrive when they are actively involved in their learning - exploring, creating, collaborating, making decisions, overcoming challenges and reflecting on their experiences.

By bringing these principles into everyday teaching and learning, schools can create an environment in which students not only learn about well-being, but experience it through school life itself.

"You created some amazing opportunities for us, getting us out of the classroom, giving us a chance to challenge ourselves in a number of ways.  I sometimes tend to think back and reflect on the teachers who made a difference in my life. Some of those teachers pushed me to do better and some of them were powerful enough to make me believe I could do anything. - you were one of these teachers!"

I work with schools to develop approaches that fit their context, values and aspirations - helping create a culture where staff and student well-being is something education actively contributes to.

If your school is looking to strengthen student well-being, embed positive education into everyday practice or develop a more coherent whole-school approach, I would welcome the opportunity to explore what might be possible.
